Forest Meditation: Discovering True Nature in Yourself & in the World
Meditation originated at a time when spiritual seekers sought refuge in mountains and forests. Seeking silence and solitude in the wilderness, those on the spiritual path were supported and inspired by the ways of nature. These ancient pathways provided fertile ground for personal attainment and the realization of truths central to human wholeness, including the capacity to live in peace and harmony with the natural world.
As humans we are drawn toward nature, and also to what is most authentic within ourselves. This inclination remains one of the constant longings of the human spirit: to clearly understand the way of freedom and wholeness, and to overcome feelings of separation and disconnection. Awakening to our inner life and to the world around us are mutually supportive of one another.
The practice and development of meditative awareness draws upon an open and clear mind, and an open heart. Nature often evokes these qualities within us. In turn, when our mind is calm and present, our senses open and we become more attuned with our environment. As the veil between inner and outer dissolves insight arises effortlessly, and we see both who we are as well as our place in the world.
This program combines Buddhist and indigenous teachings with instructions in shamatha and vipassana meditation. Open to all levels and experience, the program will offer support to those new to meditation and will provide opportunities for those with experience to expand and deepen their practice.
